Job Objective

This position is responsible for the direction and supervisor of all phases of logistics, transportation and warehousing towards optimal performance and profitability. Manages and staffs the department, completes driver scheduling, customer services and problem resolution in the process of transporting materials as required, carry out the Marion Goodwill Industries, Inc. mission statement.

Essential Job Functions

Customer Service:

  • Manages daily aspects of the transportation department and its staff to ensure projects are completed and goals and store needs are met.
  • Collaborates with the team to identify ways to improve department effectiveness; implements viable ideas.
  • Works cooperatively with store management; views store personnel as customer base.
  • Schedules store shipments, special activities, and daily trash disposal in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Ensures proper handling and disposal of trash, recyclables and hazardous waste.
  • Monitor GPS systems to ensure compliance; keeps GPS live during work hours.
  • Responsible for maintaining open communication between store personnel and management.
  • Communicate with team before, during and at the end of shift.
  • Maintain confidentiality; ensure correct information goes only to the appropriate person(s).
  • Present a positive public image for the betterment of the organization.
  • Assist with ensuring all employee and customer concerns are resolved in a timely manner.

Leadership:

  • Organize drivers to ensure store needs are being met.
  • Serve as the point of contact in the field for any questions that drivers have. Relays any issues relating to transportation to supervisor.
  • Work with schedulers to solve problems, remains flexible in adjusting to changes in operation requirements.
  • Understand and follows Leader driver 2, Truck driver and Truck help job descriptions.
  • Assist with the hiring process ensuring it is in accordance with Hiring Procedures.
  • Receive and review hiring applications and verify minimum qualifications are met.
  • Assist with developing and coaching employees to maximize their individual potential.
  • Assist with holding team accountable to Marion Goodwill safety standards
  • Set goals with each employee, ensuring daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly goals are met.
  • Assist with evaluating employee’s performance on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.
  • Lead and offer job duty guidance to personnel assigned.
  • Ensure all training of new employees is complete and accurate.

Production/Operations:

  • Transport various materials in packaged or bulk form to and from specified destinations, such as industrial sites, residences, or store locations.
  • Loads and unloads donations. Collects and organizes donations utilizing space available.
  • Assists in keeping donation areas neat, clean and donations booths empty.
  • Prepare receipts as required for materials picked up or delivered after establishing product salability.
  • Courteously and professionally greet donors and collect all donations, offering a receipt and supervising these same practices with all transportation employees.
  • Prepares merchandise for shipment to appropriate locations. (Textiles, Wares, etc.)
  • Perform donation home/business pick-ups, scheduling appropriate time for the drivers, confirming schedule and ensure completion of pick-up and customer satisfaction.

Administration:

  • Assist with performing administrative tasks, including: accurate daily/weekly/monthly reporting & scheduling with all employees and work services participants.
  • Is aware of and follows all company policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Policies & Procedures, and ongoing training.
  • Ensure that all assigned employees are in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Attend meetings/training as scheduled and integrate information from training into operations where applicable
  • Assist with reviewing all employee attendance with Distribution Center Coordinator. (Tardiness, absence, left early or arrived early.) Ensure appropriate actions are taken within a timely manner.
  • Review department checklists with Coordinator/Assistant to ensure completion and follow up as needed.
  • Work as scheduled, being flexible when needed.
  • Ensure lunches/breaks are scheduled with transportation team and being taken on time.

Safety and Loss prevention:

  • Leads team in conducting daily safety checks on equipment. Provides required safety equipment; ensures that all equipment is in working conditions.
  • Follow safety regulations prescribed by the U.S.Dept. of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration.
  • Responsible for reporting any infractions, personal or work related on current driving record (traffic tickets, accidents, etc.).
  • Maintain vehicles interior and exterior through pre-operation safety check and cleaning while keeping supervisor aware of any needed repairs in writing. Responsible for monthly vehicle inspection.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and complying with all state and federal safety and health regulations as well as company safety policy and procedures.
  • Assess emergency situations and take action as the need indicates reporting any such situation in writing and forwarding to the Safety Coordinator at the Corporate Office within 24 hours.
  • Notify President/CEO of any property or physical injury by phone immediately.
  • Provide constant surveillance of the entire truck inside and outside for safety and loss prevention measures.
  • Assist with ensuring monthly safety inspections are completed and submitted on time.
  • Ensure the safe handling and usage of rolling blue tubs.
  • Ensure the compliance with the Hazardous Communication Policy and Procedure (chemical labeling, Safety Data Sheets, and training).
  • Ensure transportation team cleans, restocks supplies, and maintains overall organization of the vehicles.
  • Assist in maintaining dock and warehouse areas in a neat, orderly and safe.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to work independently in a team environment.
  • High school graduate or GED preferred.
  • Has at least two years experience in a transportation related field;
  • Must be 18 years of age or older, have command of the English language sufficient to communicate with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Must possess leadership abilities (good communication skills; organization; accuracy; consistency; idea promotion).
  • Must possess interpersonal skills with customers and employees.
  • Must possess problem solving skills.
  • Must have a desire to work with rehabilitation consumers, employees, and the public.
  • Must be team oriented.
  • Must be reliable and dependable.
  • Must be able to pass alcohol/drug screening.
  • First Aid CPR Certified if assigned by Safety Coordinator (training provided)
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license, adequate personal liability insurance, and a driving record acceptable to Goodwill’s insurance provider.

Physical/Emotional Demands:

Must be able to physically enter and drive box truck, control trucks lift gate and dock plate.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, squat, bend and twist, reach for extended periods of time; push, pull, or lift up to 70 pounds in a safe manner.

Emotional: Can be high stress. Regular need for communication and social interaction with others. May require prioritization in a fast-paced environment.

Job Location: Corporate Office; Will travel to store locations, area residences, and commercial establishments.

Technology and Equipment: Computers with knowledge of Mobile web clock and Payroll Software. Commercial truck, light truck, passenger van, and other material handling equipment; pallet jack, forklift (when licensed by Agency).
