Emergency ClothingMarion Goodwill’s Emergency Clothing Program provides assistance to individuals and families in need of emergency clothing at no charge. Emergency clothing also applies to individuals in need of professional attire for job interviews. Individuals in need of clothing must be deemed eligible by one of the following organizations: Turning Point, the Homeless Shelter, Job & Family Services, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Helpline, Connections, People In Need, the Red Cross, or the Juvenile Court. After receiving a voucher from one of these organizations, families are welcomed into Goodwill stores to shop for the items they need. This process allows each individual the freedom to choose the items they need from Goodwill’s vast inventory, rather than a limited number of goods donated directly to an agency. Sheila Chapman, Program Services Advocate of Turning Point, states – “It is a real blessing to have this service. It relieves some of the stress on the ladies. Often they come to us with nothing, and this enables them to provide at least this much for their families. Shopping seems to be almost therapeutic; it is something they enjoy, and get to do for themselves. Even after ladies leave the program, many state that they return to Goodwill to shop.” |
